Sports SIG August Event: Management of Hip Injuries in Artistic Athletes

Course Description:
This course will engage the learners through background understanding of the relevance of hip pathology in artistic sports and how, as physical therapists, we can be successful in treating these athletes. It will take the learner step by step through history, examination, and treatment of the hip of an artistic athlete, highlighting the unique features and challenges associated. Relevant images and videos will supplement the material to enhance the learner’s understanding of anatomy, movement, and sport.

Course Objectives:
-Identify the prevalence and risk factors of hip injuries in artistic athletes (dancers, gymnasts, figure skaters, cheer, etc)
-Identify the biomechanical and environmental contributors to dysfunction
-Utilize an appropriate and tailored examination of these athletes
Design a physical therapy program tailored to common diagnoses, discussing indications, techniques, etc.
-Recognize key elements to consider in post-operative hip rehabilitation.
